Pickleball in Wilson, North Carolina

Wilson is a regional pickleball destination built around the 26 court complex at J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex. Eight courts are covered, every court is lighted, and two covered championship courts include bleacher seating. Daily public hours, seasonal lessons, a ladder league, inclusion programming, and a September tournament give casual and competitive players several ways to participate.

City of Wilson Pickleball Complex, 3238 Corbett Avenue, is the main venue. It has 26 lighted courts, including eight covered courts and two championship courts with bleachers. A large picnic shelter, shaded seating, and a concession stand support long sessions and tournament days. From March through November, the complex is open daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, weather permitting. Winter hours from December through February are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Greater Wilson Rotary Park, 1901 Branch Street NW, provides three outdoor courts for a smaller neighborhood game. Gillette is the better choice for covered play, evening lighting, large groups, and competitive events.

Fall Lessons by Skill Level

Tennisbloc's fall session runs September 14 through November 4 at the Gillette complex. Adult beginner instruction meets Monday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, adult intermediate from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, and adult advanced from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. The season costs $99, with discounts available for multiple players.

Younger players have their own Wednesday classes: beginner instruction for ages 14 and under from 5:30 to 6:30 PM and intermediate instruction for ages 18 and under from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. September League and Tournament Calendar

The fall ladder league runs Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM from September 9 through October 21. All skill levels can participate. The fee is $20 for city residents and $30 for nonresidents, and games are organized through CourtReserve.

The World of Pickleball tournament comes to Gillette September 18 through 20, 2026. Friday is singles, Saturday is men's and women's doubles, and Sunday is mixed doubles. Divisions range from under 3.0 through Open. The format begins with round robin play and moves into single elimination, with at least four games guaranteed. Registration remains open through September 16 at $65 per player, and both doubles partners register separately.

Unified Dinks returns in 2027 for players age 7 and older with and without disabilities. The free program follows the Special Olympics Unified Sports recreation model, with Wednesday and Saturday sessions beginning May 20.
